Martyna Plich - October 2017
Currently she is not able to sit on her own, speak or even walk. Although she is nonverbal, she is able to communicate with her eyes. Martyna has good contact with her siblings and peers. Due to the increased muscle tension in her body, any type of movement is difficult for her, that is why she uses a wheelchair. Recently she has learned to use a walker which she is doing quite well with. However, Martyna is growing quite quickly and her previous wheelchair no longer fits her. She has individual studies at school and she understands the information she is learning. Martyna is relying on this wheelchair for her to get to school and to make her a lot more comfortable as well. This wheelchair costs 8,700 zloty out of that sum the National Health Fund (NFZ) will donate 3,000 zloty to this cause, but the family still needed 5,700 zloty.
This family of five, living and working on a farm, due to the low income, cannot afford the cost of the new wheelchair. Martyna is a child who not only requires rehabilitation, but also special equipment that facilitates her daily functions. She is 10 years old and this rehabilitation, as well as contact with special people who can aid her, are very important to her progress, so she can hopefully be partially independent in her future. The Childrens’ Smile Foundation donated the funds necessary for purchase of the much needed wheelchair.
