Nasza Historia

Poznaj naszą historię

During 2000 and 2001 we organized collections of clothing, toys, and school supplies for the children in Stalowa Wola. In 2001 we also managed to send a group of children on a trip to Zamość, where they had the opportunity to visit a theater and the zoo.

In the summer of 2001 the idea of organizing an auction of children’s paintings was born. The children felt honored and worked very hard on their projects. The little artists earned $1,300, which allowed them to go to a theater in Rzeszów and have a picnic in the park. The rest of the money was designated for the renovation of their facilities.

At the beginning of 2002 we received a letter from an orphanage in Stalowa Wola. Ms. Iwona Borkowska wrote about the needs of the children there and about the financial difficulties of the institution. At her request we organized a book auction. The funds we gathered made it possible to buy school supplies for the institution. Later that year we sent additional money for a trip to Łańcut and Rzeszów.

On February 22, 2003 we organized our first Valentine’s Day Fundraising Dance. The profit from that event was designated for the orphanage in Stalowa Wola. Thanks to the funds, the kids were able to go on a trip to Kraków and a two-week vacation in Rymanów-Zdrój.

Our biggest charity event took place on September 20, 2003 in the Polish American National Hall. Almost 250 people participated in the fundraising dance. Thanks to the generosity of the participants and sponsors (A.G. Contractors, Bridge Capital Enterprises, M.M. Faze Construction Corp., Zale Contracting Inc.), we collected $13,000, which was sent to orphanages in Stalowa Wola, Białystok, and Jelenia Góra.

In late September 2003 we received a letter from a desperate mother, Krystyna Przygorzyńska, whose son suffers from scoliosis. She asked us for help in paying for her son’s surgery, and in response to her request we organized a book auction that displayed works by Father Ryszard Koper and Katarzyna Ziółkowska.

The most important event of 2003 was our formal establishment on November 26. The Board of Directors (Tadeusz Chaber, Rafał Chojnowski, Andrzej Grzegorzewski, Beata Pudełko, Krzysztof Rostek, Aldona Trzeciak, and Mariola Zaremba) was established and the statute was approved.

We began the year 2004 with our second Valentine’s Day Fundraising Dance, which took place on February 14. The aim of the ball was to gather funds for a children’s trip to Italy, during which they would attend the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino. We were able to accomplish that goal thanks to the donations of Adamba Imports International, A.G. Contractors, Bridge Capital Enterprises, Zale Contracting Inc., the Polish & Slavic Center, Rafał and Ewa Chojnowski, and others. During the seven-day trip the kids visited Rome, Venice, Florence, and the Vatican.

On June 4, 2004 we held an art auction of paintings. We displayed the children’s artwork as well as works by artists from the international exhibit in New York. The funds from this event were sent to orphanages in Stalowa Wola, Białystok, and Jelenia Góra.

On June 17, 2004 Mariola Zaremba and Barbara Bezak organized “An Evening by the Candles,” during which an auction of wines and jewelry took place. The profit from this event was sent to the foundation “Na ratunek dzieciom z chorobą nowotworową” (a foundation for children with cancer) to help a young girl, Oliwia Mikołajczyk, win her battle with cancer.

During the summer of 2004 Marek Krasowski asked us for help. His 18-year-old son, Janusz, had cancer. Thanks to Andrzej Grzegorzewski, who connected us with the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for International Patients, an analysis of the disease and the possibility of treatment in the USA were considered. Unfortunately, Janusz’s condition worsened, and Marek returned to Poland to be closer to his son.

On November 27, 2004 the dance event “Zabawa Andrzejkowa” took place in the Polish American National Hall. The money gathered during that event was sent to pay for English classes attended by kids in Stalowa Wola and Białystok.

In December we held a clothing drive for poor and large families. Tadeusz Chaber gave the most significant contribution to this action. In addition, we sent our aid to a foster home in Głowienka.

Also in 2004, one of our members, Krzysztof Rostek, was recognized for his contribution to our organization and received the Medal of Smile. The children of the orphanage in Stalowa Wola elected him as the recipient of the award to thank him for his support and good heart. Here is part of the letter that was sent to the International Chapter of the Order of the Smile:

“Krzysztof, in spite of living in the United States, is taking care of all of the children in our house. He has contributed greatly, along with his wife, to make sure our needs were met. He has now put together a group of people who help him give back to the less fortunate. Krzysztof is not looking for any benefits and doesn’t expect acknowledgment for his endeavors. The biggest happiness for him is our joy and our smiles. Krzysztof and his friends send us packages with beautiful things and a lot of money. Thanks to them: we now have a gym; we have nice clothes and no longer feel embarrassed by the way we look; we participate in extracurricular activities (swimming, dance, foreign languages, horseback riding); we have a library with many books and computer games; we travel and get to know our country; our caretakers have money to treat and rehabilitate us; and we no longer experience the feeling of being hungry. There is a big celebration in our house when Krzysztof visits us with his family. He always brings us gifts, like sweets, ice cream, and drinks. No one has been so good and generous to us. All the children have smiles on their faces and want to sit on his lap and be hugged by him. Everyone dreams about having such a father. He has to have a big heart; otherwise he wouldn’t bring us so much joy. We are still children, and we count on adults’ help and support. We don’t know how to thank him for being with us, for his good heart, and for his love. Therefore we decided to ask the International Chapter of the Order of the Smile to honor Krzysztof on our behalf. We want to give him ‘the smiling sun,’ which is as beautiful as his smile and as warm as his heart.”

In January 2005 we organized a book auction in the Polish American National Hall. The funds were designated for the surgery and rehabilitation of Ola Milewska — a little girl who was born with a cleft palate and cracking of the hands.

On February 12, 2005 the third Valentine’s Day Fundraising Dance took place. The income from this event was sent toward the construction of the House of Heart in Świdnica, Poland. This event was very significant to us because of the presence of Dr. Cynthia Price Cohen, Executive Director of the Child Rights International Research Institute at the U.N.; Marek Skulimowski, Polish Consul; Paweł Jaros from the Polish Department of Child Welfare; and Marek Michalak and Marek Pawłowski from the International Chapter of the Order of the Smile.

On June 18, 2005 we organized a picnic called “Summer with Children’s Smile Foundation” at the Holy Cross Parish in Maspeth. Although it was the first affair of this kind in our history, it was attended by over 200 people and turned out to be very successful. Everyone enjoyed the performances of children from Joseph’s Dance Studio and the music of The Masters. The most exciting part of the evening was the lottery of a plasma TV.

On October 29, 2005, at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland, 233 Madison Ave, New York, NY, the exhibition and auction “Young Polish Artists for Children” took place. Thirty-nine paintings by nine young Polish artists (Oskar Biały, Rafał Ekwiński, Anita Flejter, Michał Głogowski, Bogdan Kujawski, Agata Lipnicka, Andrzej Olszewski, Anna Pinczer, Krzysztof Szymański) were auctioned. The exhibition was graced by Amelia Kwiatkowski and Jeremiasz Trzaskalski, who performed a piano duet, and by a ballroom dance performance by Joseph’s Dance Studio. The auction was very successful, and the gathered funds were designated for orphanages in Poland.

On November 19, 2005 the dance event “Andrzejki” was organized in cooperation with the Holy Cross Parish Polish School. More than a hundred people had a good time and danced to the music of The Revers. Funds from this event were raised for the administrative support of the organization.

In December 2005 and January 2006 we presented the exhibition “Meetings of John Paul II with Children.” The exhibition consisted of 46 exceptional, mostly unknown, color photographs by the personal photographer of John Paul II, Arturo Mari. The pictures were carefully selected by the specialists of Polskie Wydawnictwo Encyklopedyczne from several million photographs in the rich archives of Servizio Fotografico of L’Osservatore Romano. They were enlarged to 70 × 100 cm prints from the original negatives by the team of experts of Servizio Fotografico. Each picture was titled, and all titles were taken from sermons, speeches, and documents of the Pope during his visits to Poland. Together, the works form one exceptional tale, making the presence of John Paul II even more visible. The exhibition was lent from Poland, where it had been shown in many Polish cities and gained great popularity, and it was made accessible to the American public in New York and Pennsylvania.

The official opening took place on December 4, 2005 at the Polish & Slavic Center in Greenpoint. The opening was graced by Consul General of the Republic of Poland Krzysztof Kasprzyk; Consul Marek Skulimowski; the President of the Polish American Congress Downstate Division, Frank Milewski; Bishop John Strynkowski; the President of the Polish & Slavic Center, Bożena Kamińska; and guests from Poland: Ombudsman for Children Paweł Jaros, Mariola Chojnacka and Henryk Polak from the Ombudsman’s office, and Paweł Wilk from Polskie Wydawnictwo Encyklopedyczne. A banquet took place after the opening. The main attraction of the festivity was the auction of a series of works by Rafał Olbiński. The funds collected during the auction were sent to help orphaned and underprivileged children in the parishes of Taraz, Jasna Polana, and Zielony Gaj in Kazakhstan.

During December 2005 and January 2006 the exhibition was made accessible to the American public at: the Polish & Slavic Center, 177 Kent Street, Brooklyn, NY 11222; the Polish Army Veterans Association, 17 Irving Pl, New York, NY 10003; St. Lucas Church, 818 Main St, Strasburg, PA 18360; and Holy Cross Parish, 61-21 56 Rd, Maspeth, NY 11378.

In late December 2005 we sent aid to the foster home in Głowienka and the orphanages in Stalowa Wola and Jelenia Góra to help with holiday expenses.

On June 3, 2006 we celebrated International Children’s Day. We spent that day with children from the Holy Cross Parish Polish School of Language and Culture in Maspeth. Children from grades 1–5 took part in a drawing contest entitled “What can I give a child who lives in an orphanage?” Donated CDs and books were used to award the children. All of the contestants joined us on June 24 to take part in painting our new banner. We are honored to have met these young people, who by their participation in our events showed us their good hearts and compassion.

On August 10, 2006 the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland, the Trust Development Club, and Children’s Smile Foundation organized a lecture honoring the anniversaries of the Warsaw Uprising and the Battle of Warsaw of 1920. After the lectures “Powstanie Warszawskie” and “Cud nad Wisłą,” an auction of paintings was held. The goal of this event was to raise money for the treatment and rehabilitation of Dorota Lipec and Łukasz Hatlas, and also to send aid for the education of underprivileged Polish children in Kazakhstan through Wspólnota Polska. Over $9,000 was collected at this event.

On September 23, 2006 we held our first Junior Miss Polonia Pageant at the Holy Cross Parish Polish School of Language and Culture in Maspeth. All of the participants were awarded and joined us at the Pulaski Parade in October. This event raised money to help the disadvantaged and made it possible for us to connect with children in our community.

On December 14, 2006 a dear friend of ours raised funds for our organization by hosting a private party. She asked for part of the proceeds to be sent to Towarzystwo Pomocy im. św. Brata Alberta in Stalowa Wola. The remainder of her donation was distributed among the orphanages in Stalowa Wola, Białystok, and Jelenia Góra. In late December we sent holiday packages full of toys, play centers, and clothing. In addition, we sent a package to Dorota Lipec, a paralyzed girl who needed everyday hygiene products.

Children’s Smile Foundation began 2007 by celebrating its 5-year anniversary and honoring Msgr. Peter Zendzian at the Valentine’s Day Ball on February 10, 2007. The event was held at the Polonaise Terrace in Brooklyn, where we were joined by about 80 guests. Everyone danced to the music of the Retro Band and participated in an auction of paintings.

In March we organized a book auction. Its goal was to raise funds for Paweł Dubaj, to help the child’s family cover his medical bills.

On Friday, May 4, 2007, at 7 p.m., at the Józef Piłsudski Institute of America, Children’s Smile Foundation organized a lecture and book auction celebrating the Constitution of May 3rd. It was a great opportunity for everyone from the surrounding Polish-American communities to take part and look back at our history, to better appreciate and understand all that Polish heritage has to offer.

On June 3 a Kids’ Day was organized for children from the Polish Supplementary School in Maspeth. Its students had an opportunity to take part in a drawing contest. The awarded kids also expressed their imagination on our banner, which is displayed during our presentations and fundraisers.

In July 2007 funds were sent to the orphanages in Stalowa Wola and to Towarzystwo Pomocy im. św. Brata Alberta to cover building renovations and children’s vacation expenses.

That year’s summer picnic took place on August 25, 2007. Nearly 150 people enjoyed delicious Polish cuisine and danced to the tunes of the Paradise band. Among the many attractions, the lottery of an iPod was a very exciting part of the night.

On September 29, 2007, for the second time, we held the Junior Miss Polonia Pageant at the Holy Cross Parish in Maspeth. All of our participants were awarded and joined us at the Pulaski Parade on October 7.

In November 2007 a very generous and loyal friend of ours organized another fundraiser. Most of the funds raised were sent to Towarzystwo Pomocy im. św. Brata Alberta in Stalowa Wola. The remainder of the donation was distributed among the orphanages in Stalowa Wola and Jelenia Góra and the foster home in Głowienka.

On November 9, 2007 holiday packages full of toys and clothing were sent to orphanages throughout Poland. At the end of November we spent an evening with the Wojciechowski girls. The three sisters’ mother is completely paralyzed as the result of a car accident. To help them not only financially but also to draw their attention away from their suffering mother, they received gift cards to a popular department store to spend on winter clothing.

On February 2, 2008 the sixth annual Valentine’s Day Ball was organized at the Polonaise Terrace in Greenpoint. One hundred fifty guests attended the event, which turned out to be a big success. Part of the profit was sent to Łukasz Hatlas, a 22-year-old whose both kidneys had been removed.

On April 12, 2008, at the Polonaise Terrace in Greenpoint, Children’s Smile Foundation organized a children’s artwork auction. Its purpose was to gather funds for the Białystok orphanage’s vacation fund. All of the auctioned artwork was provided by young artists from that facility, to whom the full profit was sent.

During the first week of June our organization had the chance to host the “Odyssey of the Mind” world finalists. The group of young men made their way through the regional, national, and then world finals of one of the most prestigious and ambitious educational contests. The students from Opole had a chance to see most of the attractions the city has to offer.

On June 21 another summer festival was organized. The profit from the event was dedicated in full to a rehabilitation camp for children from Towarzystwo Pomocy im. św. Brata Alberta in Stalowa Wola.

In the middle of the summer Children’s Smile Foundation sent funds to Fundacja Wileńszczyzna to sponsor a project called “Mali Polacy z Kresów Bliżej Macierzy.” Its main purpose was to bring kids of Polish ancestry living in Lithuanian and Ukrainian orphanages closer to the home of their parents and grandparents. Two five-day trips were a form of compensation for the unbearable conditions in which these kids are forced to live. Eighty children had a chance to see the most interesting sights of Warsaw and spend carefree days away from their sad reality.

In October, thanks to our supporters, we were able to help Agnieszka Krzyszkowska — a mother of two. Both of her kids are affected by genetic complications and are in need of medical treatment. After being incorrectly diagnosed, Agnieszka decided to seek a second opinion here. Children’s Smile Foundation was able to provide enough financial support to help them get through the near future while her kids were being operated on and rehabilitated.

In November we sent financial support to Towarzystwo Pomocy im. św. Brata Alberta in Stalowa Wola and the orphanage in Jelenia Góra. Also, as in every year before Christmas, we sent holiday packages to the orphanages in Stalowa Wola, Jelenia Góra, Białystok, and Głowienka.

At the end of November, at the Polonaise Terrace in Brooklyn, we organized “Andrzejki.” Nearly 100 people had a chance not only to have a great time but also to support a great cause.

We began the tenth year of our mission with the annual Valentine’s Day Ball. During the event our guests enjoyed performances by Michelle Baranowski, a young Polish vocalist, as well as the Joseph Dance Studio dancers. For art lovers, works by Teresa Rysztof, Rafał Olbiński, and other local artists were auctioned.

On April 25 six beautiful young girls came to compete for the Miss CSF crown. The competition took place during our spring dance fundraiser. All candidates presented themselves in two categories: presence and a talent show. Although the decision was very difficult, our jury chose Catherine Garderewicz as the new Miss CSF. Julia Izak took second place, and Oliwia Jankowska came in third. Julia Izak also became Miss Photo — she and her family were to receive a professional photo session in Central Park.

On June 27, along with the School of Polish Language and Culture in Maspeth, Children’s Smile Foundation hosted a summer feast. All profit from the event went toward scholarships for the School of Polish Language and Culture graduates. Over 150 guests joined us for the evening to help us promote education among young people.

On December 5 Santa Claus visited us during our holiday event. All proceeds, in the amount of $4,500, went entirely toward holiday support for families in our community as well as orphanages in Poland.

We began the year with our annual Valentine’s Day Gala. The evening was especially emotional for many because of the presence of Anna Kozłowski, a 16-year-old girl confined to a wheelchair. All proceeds from the event, in the amount of $6,400, went toward rehabilitation equipment for her.

During that year’s summer feast we hosted a Junior Miss CSF contest. Although it was a very difficult decision, our jury came to a final result: Angelica Popławski was appointed to the crown, with Claudia Bis as the Vice Miss. Funds from the event, in the amount of $3,500, went toward medical expenses for Nicole Zalewski, a 13-year-old girl who had been diagnosed with a brain tumor in April.

On December 4, for the second time, we organized a Santa Claus event. The fundraiser drew over 200 guests and gave children an opportunity to meet Santa Claus and parents a chance to enjoy the holiday season. Thanks to our supporters we were able to raise $4,300, which helped families in our community during that year’s Christmas season.

At the end of the year we invited all our supporters to a fundraiser dedicated to the Wojciechowski sisters, whose mother had been unresponsive to the world for the past four years. The event turned out to be a success — not only were we able to raise over $6,000, but it also gave everyone an opportunity to become more sensitive to the less fortunate. The proceeds from the event were designated to cover educational expenses.

We began 2011 with the Valentine’s Ball, which took place at the Polonaise Terrace in Brooklyn. The Guest of Honor was Mrs. Dorota Andraka, the President of the Polish Supplementary School Council of America. The Board of Directors of Children’s Smile Foundation honored her for her outstanding commitment to the education of young American Polonia. A special diary, in which everyone was able to write wishes and congratulations, was presented in her honor. The income from the ball was given to children in orphanages in Poland as well as to Brian Walec’s family, who had lost all of their belongings in a fire.

Our next fundraiser took place on June 5, 2011 at the Polish Consulate in New York. Artworks provided by the orphanages in Stalowa Wola and Głowienka in Poland were auctioned. Mr. Adamek, a well-known Polish boxer, donated his boxing gloves for the auction. During the event we enjoyed performances by special guests from Poland — winners of the Polish edition of “You’ve Got Talent”: Agnes Kalinowski, Paulina Nowakowski, and Gabriel Stryjniak. Income from this fundraiser was divided among the following causes: the orphanage “Ochronka” in Stalowa Wola, the foster home in Głowienka, and Małgosia Tomczak, a six-year-old girl who was born with one leg shorter, to help cover her upcoming operations.

Together with the School of Polish Language and Culture in Maspeth, the foundation held the Summer Feast on Saturday, June 25, 2011. The party was organized to help Dorota Zakrzewska, the mother of three newborns who lost their father two weeks after their birth. Part of the funds raised during the evening was donated to the students from Maspeth as scholarships.

The fundraiser to help the flood victims of Wallington, New Jersey raised enough money to support the children who had suffered the most due to the hurricane and flooding. The organization was able to help twenty families, who were given gift cards to Walmart.

On Saturday, December 3, 2011 we once again organized a Santa Claus event, in the auditorium of the School of Polish Language and Culture in Maspeth. The event was organized for children in need — mainly those who reside in orphanages in Poland and the children of families in difficult life situations. The guest of honor was Consul Peter Janicki with his wife. We also welcomed the representatives of the Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union, who brought a huge basket of children’s favorite Christmas chocolates. Thanks to our supporters we were able to raise more than $6,000 to help families in our community during that year’s Christmas season.

There were plenty of attractions for the children, such as a magic show, art classes, and a meeting with Santa Claus, who handed out gifts. The children also made Christmas cards, which were later distributed to children in orphanages. Christmas is a special time of gifts and love, and the assembled guests and sponsors showed their big hearts and generosity. Before the stage stood a Christmas tree, from which guests could take an ornament and make a donation to the orphanages in Poland. There was also an auction of a shirt signed by Adam Małysz, one of the most successful ski jumpers in history; the T-shirt with his autograph sold for $150. Income from the event was sent to orphanages in Poland and helped children from Polish families in the U.S. who especially need our support and assistance during the holiday season.

On February 11, 2012 the Valentine’s Ball took place at the Polonaise Terrace in Brooklyn. That year’s award went to Marek Skulimowski for his contribution and commitment to helping the foundation. He was, until recently, a Consul at the Consulate in New York and is currently a director at Inglot Cosmetics. Bogdan Chmielewski awarded our guest of honor with a crystal ball. Our guest was Consul Przemysław Balcerzyk with his wife. The evening’s attraction was an auction of Bogdan Kujawski’s paintings as well as outstanding posters by Rafał Olbiński. One of the paintings, titled “Morning,” reached an extremely high price of $2,000. The happy buyer, Super Express, put it up for auction again through its newspaper, and this time the painting was auctioned for $3,000. Greg Sobolewski of New York won the bidding. An additional sum of $1,000 was given to the disabled David Kacperczyk from Radom, Poland, whose story was described in the pages of Super Express.

New York City Comptroller John C. Liu made a surprise appearance, giving a short speech expressing his admiration for our organization and wishing us further success, and then spoke with the assembled guests and posed for pictures.

Three-month-old Kayla Sutowski from Middle Village, NY, whose father was paralyzed and in a wheelchair as the result of a tragic accident, received all proceeds from the lottery in the amount of $2,500. This amount helped the family purchase necessary articles for Kayla. Funds collected during the Valentine’s Day Ball also allowed us to help Monika Nowak, a two-year-old girl with kidney cancer from the orphanage in Stalowa Wola. She went through chemotherapy and requires a special dairy-free diet, rehabilitation, and permanent visits to the Department of Oncology in Warsaw.

Two-year-old Nadia Bubel has an extremely rare congenital defect — an arteriovenous malformation of the spinal cord — which, as a result of bleeding, caused complete paralysis. In April she underwent spine surgery in Paris and now requires daily rehabilitation to minimize the effects of the paralysis. Thanks to the event, we were able to give Nadia $1,500 for the surgery.

On the first Saturday of June an auction took place at the Consulate General in New York. Works were sent over by children from Polish orphanages, including one in Głowienka, and from Towarzystwo im. św. Brata Alberta of Stalowa Wola. That year’s auction also exhibited paintings by famous painters: R. Ekwiński, E. Korzeniewski, U. Kubrak, B. Kujawski, T. Rysztof, M. Satryan, J. Skowron, A. Skowron, Z. Sokołowski, M. Zawadzka, T. Żebrowski, and R. Olbiński. With the funds collected, we were able to help organize summer holidays for children from orphanages in Poland.

Under the slogan “Summer With a Smile,” jointly with the John Paul II School of Polish Language and Culture, we organized the summer festival, which took place on July 14, 2012 at Holy Cross Parish Square in Maspeth. The festivity had a lot of fun activities for kids, such as face painting, colored sand crafts, and contests with prizes, and sweets like cotton candy and popcorn. Dishes served included kielbasa from our sponsors: W-Nassau Meat Market and Steve’s Meat Market in Greenpoint. Delicious cakes were gifts from Syrena and Old Poland Bakery. The guest of honor was Consul Ewa Łukowicz-Oniszczuk, who welcomed everyone with the words of John Paul II: “Yesterday does not belong to you. Tomorrow is uncertain… only today is yours.” “So do not delay doing good. Let’s do it today and now,” she continued.

Additional archival details about this event will be added once the source material has been completed and verified.

At the party, Super Express editors presented the children’s works entered in the editorial contest entitled “My Mom.” It was an opportunity to purchase drawings and paintings by the youngest Polish artists. Super Express donated the proceeds to the foundation to help children in need.

Toward the end of the event a lottery was held, with many attractive prizes made possible by our sponsors. Lawyer Mariusz J. Śniarowski of The Perecman Firm bought the grand prize, the TV; the iPad was purchased by U.S. Money Express; and two certificates for rental cars in Poland were sponsored by American Travel Abroad. Adam’s European Contracting Inc. funded all the activities for children, while Beauty Shine in Greenpoint gave an $80 certificate for the auction. The grand prize TV was won by Wojtek of Maspeth, and the car rental prize by Bartek from Greenpoint.

The 75th annual Pulaski Parade was held on October 7. Thanks to our sponsors, the foundation was present at the parade with a float, and many supporters came out for the spectacle. Special thanks to the following companies: Belvedere Bridge Enterprises Inc., Syrena Bakery Inc., Vision Financial Services, Ella Business Center, Play & Learn Day Care Center, and Markowa Apteka.

On October 20, 2012, at the Polonaise Terrace, the ball “Lekarze – Dzieciom” (“Doctors for Children”) honored physicians for their hard work and dedication to helping children live healthier and better lives. We thank all who supported us in this cause. The ball was organized to help children awaiting operations and medicine. Four children from Poland received financial aid from the funds raised at the ball: Jagoda Piecha, 10 months old, with cystic fibrosis; Dawid Kaźmierczak, 6 years old, disabled with a history of meningitis and hydrocephalus, for whom constant rehabilitation will help him begin to walk on his own; Piotruś Doroba, 7 years old, awaiting chemotherapy after brain tumor removal surgery; and Dawidek Miechur, 4 years old, suffering from a genetic disease, neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis. Thanks to the sponsors who provided prizes for the lottery — including Inglot, AMTA, Euro Optical, and Ewa’s Beauty Salon — the foundation was able to fund Dawid Miechur’s trip. He came to New York in November for special tests at the Weill Cornell Medical College.

Traditionally, at the beginning of December, a Santa event is organized for children. That year the event was held on December 8 in the auditorium of Holy Cross, which was filled with smiling children and their families, for whom Santa was waiting with presents. There were many attractions for the children that evening. Volunteers dressed as elves ran an arts and crafts room throughout the event — together they made snowmen, snowflakes, Christmas trees, and many other things. A spectacular magic show captivated the young audience, as did participation in various contests with prizes. Sponsors provided snacks for the guests: wonderful baked goods from Syrena Bakery Inc. and tasty snacks from Steve’s Meat Market, Kiszka, and Krakus. The Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union provided abundant presents for the children, and Euro Optical sponsored the main prize, a scooter. As always, the event had a Christmas tree with ornaments bearing the names of Polish orphanages, and the guests made donations for the homes. Thanks to our supporters, we were able to help families in our community during that year’s Christmas season, as well as children from orphanages in Poland.

Auction at Polish Consulate June 1st – Kids Day

June 1st is an International Day for Protection of Children. Every year, traditionally, our Foundation holds an art auction at the General Consulate in New York. Consul General, Ewa Junczyk-Ziomecka graciously hosted our event. We collected various paintings and art work from foster homes at Jelenia Gora, Liskow, Tow. Im. Sw. Brata Alberta from Stalowa Wola, from Community Center at Elk and from Association of disabled Nike at Bialystok.
The evening began with performances by your artists from Ms. Bozena Konkiel’s music school “Kobo Music Studio” and included Nicholas Kaponyas, Peter Plaskota and Kerri Thompson. The Padarewski Quartet from Glen Head, Long Island played at the opening. Vocalist Tom Kozakiewicz, also sang for our guests.

Our Director, Marek Skulimowski was instrumental in securing many works of art from various artists such as R. Olbinski, B. Kujawski, J. Kapusta and others.

Mr. Skulimowski auctioned off the works, which netted $6,500 and the funds were allocated to children in Polish orphanages for a summer trip.

Maspeth Feast

Our summer festival “Usmiech Dziecka” took place on June 15th, 2013 in the backyard of the Holy Cross Parish in Maspeth. We had many attractions for kids this year, like a rock climbing wall, bouncing castle as well as arts and crafts table and face painting. Consul Mateusz Stasiek came to our festival with his wife and daughter. He read to children in the program “All of Polonia Reads for Children”, led by Dobra Polska Szkola.

This year’s festival was special, in that we organized finals for the competition “Talent Show”. Auditions were held a month prior to this event. Our jury consisted of Ewa Lewandowska, talented finalist of the Polish edition of “Got Talent”, Wanada Czajka, Marshall for the Pulaski Parade from Maspeth as well as Polish Supplementary School teacher and owner of Kobo Music Studio, Bozena Konkiel. Our own Director, Waldemar Rakowicz, also a principal at Polish Supplementary School named after Pope John Paul II, was a juror as well.
First prize went to Jan Ksawery Kwecien for his original recitation of poem “Lokomotywa” by Jan Brzechwa and won an iPod Touch. Second place went to Evalina Backiel from Glen Head, Long Island and won an iPod Nano. Both prizes were sponsored by Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union. Third place went to a dancing duo: Julia Dolega and Maya Janicki. The pair won 2 iPod Shuffles sponsored by our Director, attorney Mariusz Sniarowski from the Perecman Firm, PLLC. Director Iwona Mienko, M.D. donated an electronic Kindle which was awarded to Martha Wachulec, who played Adele’s “SkyFall” on the keyboard. Our guests were entertained by lively music by DJ Filip.
We held a lottery during the festival, earnings from which were donated to David Miechur. Little David came to New York from Poland for a consultation on a possible surgery related to a genetic disorder. We thank all of our sponsors for number of prizes donated for lottery including Krzysztof Rostek from Bridge Capital Enterprises, Andrzej Grzegorzewski from AG Contractors as well as Wizard Electronics and Polsat Inc.

Pulaski Day Parade

Halloween Party

This year we organized our first ever Halloween costume party. Our Director Beata Jakubowska has personally prepared and delivered a feast. Guests danced the night away in a beautiful setting with Manhattan skyline views. The venue for this event was kindly made available to us by Mr. Ryszard Mierzejewski and Krzysztof Rostek. It was their newest development in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. This event was truly a unique fundraiser

Meeting with Santa

On Saturday, December 7th, 2013 we held our annual “Meeting with Santa” Christmas party in the auditorium of Holy Cross school in Maspeth. We were honored to have Consul Agnieszka Torres De Oliviera from the Polish Consulate in New York as our guest. While numerous activities kept the children entertained, visit from Santa was the highlight of the event.

Children Band “Gaudete” Board of Directors and Santa and Z.Kaczynski from The Masters Band
Santa gave out presents funded by our sponsors. Our Foundation has sent $6,000 to various Polish orphanages for Christmas this year.

New Year’s Eve Party

In a beautiful ballroom at Leonard’s Restaurant 260 guests joined us to welcome the New Year. We celebrated dancing to “Remix” band. Attractive prizes have made the lottery held at the ball a success. In addition to an iPod purchased by the Foundation, a gift certificate worth $500 for travel overseas was donated by Mr. M. W. Boguniecki. AMTA also donated generous gift certificate and various travel discounts. We therefore raised $3,635 from the lottery and donated the funds to Michal Kucharski from Poland. Little Michal is scheduled to come to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital for a surgery in April 2014.
Traditionally, everyone welcomed the New Year at midnight with a champagne toast.

We started our 15th year of charitable giving with a great Valentine’s Day Ball. It took place at Leonard’s in Great Neck, NY on February 8, 2014. The Paderewski Quartet graciously played classical favorites during the opening cocktail hour — the Weroniecki and Koziel sisters supported our foundation in this way yet again. Consul Mateusz Stąsiek of the Polish Consulate in New York greeted close to two hundred guests. That year’s honorary guests were Mr. and Mrs. Dariusz and Elżbieta Knapik, owners of VDK Restoration and Victora Consulting & Development LLC. They have supported our foundation and the broader Polonia for many years, always focusing on organizations engaged with Polish-American youth. The foundation’s president, Arthur Dołęga, presented the Knapiks with a commemorative plaque and thanked them for their commitment to our cause. Their talented daughter, Victoria Knapik, took the opportunity to sing for us, accompanied by Piotr Plaskota from Kobo Music Studio.

The evening moved on to an auction of wonderful works of art gathered for the occasion. As has almost become a tradition, Director Marek Skulimowski led the bidding. We presented the works of Rafał Olbiński, Janusz Skowron, Zbigniew Sokołowski, Bogdan Kujawski, Dariusz Śmiechowski, Marta Radziszewska, Maria Fuks, Małgosia Tojza, Mariana Kozek, and Elżbieta Wysoczańska. Mr. Dariusz Knapik also brought and contributed an icon by A. Bienska and a sculpture by Witold Śliwiński. A bouquet of flowers donated by Director Eryka Volker was won by a bid from Krzysztof Rostek, for his wife Agnieszka. The highest bid of the evening — $1,100 — came from Mrs. Dołęga, for a poster by the artist Rafał Olbiński.

That evening we also held a lottery with many prizes, donated by attorney Norman Heller (a digital Nikon camera), Bridge Capital Enterprises LTD (a Samsung Galaxy tablet and an Amazon Kindle Fire), and Inglot Cosmetics (various cosmetics). The proceeds from the lottery, in the amount of $3,395, were donated toward the treatment and rehabilitation of two children with severe health problems: Piotr Pierchala, 9 years old, and Sandra Opat, 10 years old. Sandra’s funds would be used to buy a specialized wheelchair. The Remix band kept the guests dancing until the very end.

On February 27, 2014 Director Krzysztof Rostek initiated a fundraising event by inviting everyone to one of his buildings for “Tłusty Czwartek.” The guests traditionally had pączki — Polish donuts — and came to support a special family, the Przedworskis. Joanna Przedworski lives in Garfield, NJ with five children; her husband passed away when she was pregnant with the fifth child. This event generated almost $3,000 for them. The foundation additionally set aside funds to pay for a summer getaway for the family.

In March 2014 Director Eryka Volker brought our attention to Tadzio Celuch, living in Poland. Little Tadzio needed surgery at a German clinic to implant a specialized cochlear apparatus. The surgery was estimated at 35,000 euros. Mrs. Volker committed her own money and donated $600 to this cause. Our foundation matched it with an additional $900, and we wired $1,500 directly to the clinic for Tadzio.

The “Evening with Art” auction has been organized by Children’s Smile Foundation for many years. That year’s auction took place on May 31, 2014 in the magnificent rooms of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in New York. The auction annually offers works by well-known artists as well as paintings by children in orphanages and public assistance centers throughout Poland. That year we had the opportunity to feature pieces created by children from: the orphanage “Jedynka” in Białystok, the orphanage “Nadzieja” in Jelenia Góra, the Special Education Center in Ełk, the Association of Disabled Artists in Białystok, and the St. Albert Association “Ochronka” in Stalowa Wola.

Once again we were graced with the sponsorship of many renowned artists, such as: Piotr Betlej, Tomasz Bogacki, Grzegorz Czarnecki, Jacek Fedorowicz, Maria Fuks, Katarzyna Iwaniec, Janusz Kapusta, Jerzy Kożuchowski, Bogdan Kujawski, Jan Lebenstein, Robert Matejko, Tadeusz Matelski, Rafał Olbiński, Janusz Skowron, Zbigniew Sokołowski, Jacek Sroka, Dariusz Śmiechowski, Lubomir Tomaszewski, and Ewa Zeller. The musical performance was given by the students and teachers of Kobo Music Studio, led by Bożena Konkiel. The first performers of the evening were Julia Zera, Jakub Moos, and Marcin Zarkowski, followed by Sylwia Wadolowski, Peter Plaskota, Claudia Nytko, Nicholas Kaponyas, Victoria Knapik, Wisława Zarkowska, and Robert Bronchard.

Two Polish artists made their debut in that year’s auction — Robert Matejko with his painting “Pejzaż” and Tadeusz Matelski with his painting “Konie.” Grzegorz Czarnecki used his brilliant wood marquetry skills to create a portrait of Pope John Paul II for the auction; the artist had previously given a similar portrait to the Holy Cross Parish in Maspeth in honor of the canonization of Blessed John Paul II. Zbigniew Sokołowski, a Connecticut-based artist who has been an avid advocate of our cause for many years, donated a painting titled “Champs Elysees.” Dr. Iwona Mienko also donated a few Paris-themed paintings featuring the Eiffel Tower, created by art students from the Sorbonne.

Proceeds from the two highest bids of the night (totaling $1,240) went toward much-needed medical attention for Klara and Amelia, two of the triplets born to the Imieliński family. During their delivery in the 36th week, the girls experienced an insufficient oxygen supply and were born with large asymmetric body deformities. They suffer from psychomotor delay and have difficulty independently completing even the most basic tasks of daily living. Klara also suffers from epilepsy and requires additional neurological care and therapy. The remaining profits from the auction went to the aforementioned orphanages and centers that allowed us to auction their children’s art.

In 2014 the Children’s Smile Festival took place in the square by the Holy Cross Parish in Maspeth, as it traditionally does every year. Despite its name, Children’s Day is an opportunity for individuals of all ages to have fun — a large number of regular supporters, as well as newcomers, come annually to partake in this joyous celebration. The entertainment was provided once again by DJ Filip. Father Witold Mroziewski, the pastor of Holy Cross Parish, and Consul Mateusz Stąsiek, representing the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in NY, welcomed everyone at the beginning of the celebration.

The musical performance, organized by Mrs. Bożena Konkiel, featured many gifted pianists and vocalists from the Kobo Music Studio, including Michael Toniuk, Victor Borys, Dawid Łaszczkowski, Julia Czyz, Sylvia Wadolowski, Nicholas Kaponyas, Peter Plaskota, Claudia Nytko, Victoria Knapik, and Victoria Lesiczka. The concert was followed by a dance show featuring students from the Saint Stanislaus Kostka Parish in Greenpoint, who graced the audience with a beautifully choreographed piece. In addition, the band Gaudete, taught by Ewa Gindorowicz at the School of Polish Language and Culture in Maspeth, gave an equally delightful performance. Gaudete features 24 incredibly talented children who not only sing but play musical instruments as well. The band played its repertoire of songs from the movie “Akademia Pana Kleksa” and other songs prepared especially for Children’s Day. The closing number featured all the children holding flags from different countries as they sang Michael Jackson’s “We Are the World.”

During the festival we were able to raise $500, which went to Malwina and Kacper Stolarski, who had suffered the tragic loss of their father, Łukasz. Bikes graciously sponsored by Bridge Capital Enterprises were raffled off as the grand prize. The two children who won the raffle surprised everyone by donating the bikes to the Przedworski family in NJ — it was heart-warming that the children chose to act so selflessly for the benefit of others. The festival offered many other exciting attractions and contests, as well as enticing prizes and sweets. Children could test their skills in competitive games and even go horseback riding.

In October 2014 the foundation took part in the Pulaski Day Parade.

On Saturday, November 8, 2014 Children’s Smile Foundation celebrated its 15th anniversary. The celebration took place at the beautiful historical premises of the Manhattan headquarters of the Kosciuszko Foundation, under the patronage of its President, Professor Micgiel. The festivities took place in the surroundings of original Polish art and were refined by performances of Polish artists from the New York Metropolitan Opera: Monika Krajewska (mezzo-soprano), Wojciech Bukalski (bass), and Natasha Ulyanovsky (piano). There were also piano recitals by Robert Bronchard, Nicholas Kaponyas, and Sylvia Wadolowski from Bożena Konkiel’s Kobo Music Studio, as well as performances by Alexandra Woroniecka (violin), Helena Woroniecka (viola), Natalia Koziel (flute), and Veronika Koziel (cello) from the Paderewski Quartet. Most of all, the fine and distinguished guests contributed to the great success of this wonderful occasion — their long-lasting support and generosity have allowed Children’s Smile Foundation to celebrate 15 years of service to needy Polish children and families. The foundation was honored with the presence of the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in New York, Ewa Junczyk-Ziomecka, and Consul Sabina Klimek, as well as the President of the Kosciuszko Foundation, Professor John Micgiel. The Honorable Bogusław Wind, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations, also appeared as an honorary guest. The crowning achievement of the celebration was a collection of donations in the total sum of $23,164, out of which the foundation was able to purchase a specialized computer for persons with disabilities for Karolina Tuderek, in the sum of $5,500, with the remaining proceeds dedicated to other children in need.

Our 2014 Santa’s Day took place on Saturday, December 6 at Saint Matthias Church in Ridgewood. The music for the event was provided by the band The Masters. The children’s group Gaudete, directed by Ewa Gindorowicz, gave a wonderful performance at the beginning of the evening. Our Guest of Honor, Consul Mateusz Stąsiek, attended the celebration with his wife and daughter. The event featured many wonderful attractions for the children, ranging from a show by Magic Chris, who led our guests on a journey into the mystical world of illusion, to a performance by a fire juggler that left the audience in awe. Our volunteers ensured that the youngest guests did not experience a single moment of boredom — the attendees could dance, compete for prizes, have their faces painted, and create their own holiday cards and other holiday-themed arts and crafts. Another special guest, Santa Claus, gave out little souvenirs to the children. The gifts were actually provided by the foundation and our various sponsors, but we let Santa take the credit! Our Christmas tree, set up by the stage, reminded all of the gathered guests about the less fortunate children in orphanages who rely on our help and generosity during the holiday season — everyone had an opportunity to donate to a Polish orphanage or children’s hospice of their choosing. Attractive gifts sponsored by Bridge Capital Enterprises, Polvision LLC, and Little Einstein were raffled off during the celebration. The proceeds from the raffle, as well as from our Christmas ornament sale, amounted to $953 and were donated to children and families in NY facing financial hardship. The delicious food and baked goods were sponsored by Syrena Bakery, Steve’s Meat Market, Kiszka, Pieklo Bakery, and our own Dr. Iwona Mienko.

Children’s Smile Foundation, in cooperation with the Polish corporation Inglot Cosmetics USA, managed by Mr. Marek Skulimowski, Director of US Operations and Marketing, was honored to host a farewell celebration for the Honorable Ewa Junczyk-Ziomecka, Consul General of the Republic of Poland in New York. Our foundation had a very productive working relationship with Madame Consul — with her assistance and under the patronage of the Consulate General, we were able to organize the annual Art Auctions of Children’s Smile Foundation to raise necessary funds for children in need. The banquet took place on December 16, 2014 at the Inglot Pro Studio, located in the famous Chelsea Market in Manhattan. The festivities, in the wonderful company of many distinguished guests, were sponsored among others by Inglot Cosmetics USA, Amber Steak House, Poseidon Vodka, and Żywiec Beer. During the celebration the foundation took up a collection for a cause selected by Madame Consul, namely the “Specjalny Ośrodek Szkolno-Wychowawczy Stowarzyszenie Kormoran” in Ełk, Poland. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of the participants of the banquet, our foundation was able to collect $3,030 for that cause.

The New Year’s Eve Ball took place in an elegant ballroom of the Grand Prospect Hall in Brooklyn. The goal of the celebration was to raise funds for one-year-old Magda, whose aggressive cancer had left her in dire need of a life-saving surgery. Artur Dołęga, President of Children’s Smile Foundation, kicked off the evening with a welcoming speech, followed by a wonderful show performed by a local dance troupe. The food served by the restaurant was absolutely delicious — the guests enjoyed a wide variety of appetizers during cocktail hour; savory dishes such as filet mignon, salmon, and vegetarian specialties were served for dinner, followed by an assortment of sweet delicacies for dessert. Our fun-filled celebration, with music provided by The Gold Band and a professional DJ, went on until 3 a.m. An open bar was offered throughout the night, and our guests were given champagne at midnight to toast the New Year. The evening’s raffle raised a total of $4,045, which was donated toward Magda’s extensive hospitalization in Munich — Magda Adamczyk’s life-saving surgery was scheduled to take place in January 2015. The raffle prizes included a plane ticket to Poland sponsored by American Travel Abroad, a Dell laptop sponsored by Dr. Iwona Mienko, and a GoPro camera sponsored by Children’s Smile Foundation, PSFCU, and Inglot Cosmetics.

The Valentine’s Ball took place on Saturday, February 7 on the beautiful premises of Da Mikele Illagio in Elmhurst, Queens. Over 200 guests gathered for this special event — mostly Polish businessmen and leaders of various Polish organizations, including members of Children’s Smile Foundation. The guest of honor was Urszula Gacek, Consul General of Poland, who had been serving in New York since December 2014. The participants of the Valentine’s Day Ball also had the opportunity to be introduced to the newly elected President of Children’s Smile Foundation — Marek Skulimowski.

For years, Children’s Smile Foundation has given a special award honoring a person who has devoted his or her life to helping children. In 2015 the award was given to a couple — Maria and Zygmunt Bielski, known for their active work with the Polish Scouting Organization, the Gen. Casimir Pulaski Memorial Parade Committee, and many other organizations.

The money from the raffle — a total of $3,265, plus an additional $2,000 donated by Syrena Bakery in Greenpoint — contributed to the treatment of 18-month-old Johnny Karwowski at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. The lottery prizes were donated by the following businesses: Bridge Capital Enterprises, AJ Contracting Inc. of Greenwich, Inglot Cosmetics, Million Dollar Deli, and the Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union. The auctioned artworks were provided by Janusz and Arthur Skowron, Marian Kozek, Halina Wiel, Caroline Baclawski, Bogdan Kujawski, and Zbigniew Sokołowski; there were also two paintings donated by Dr. Iwona Mienko. The highest winning bid of $1,100 was placed by Eryka Volker for 17-year-old Caroline Baclawski’s painting. The art auction brought in an additional $5,225. The ball guests were entertained by The Masters, who as always generously charged only half their regular price.

Loud music, lots of games, and laughter — that’s how we kicked off that year’s Children’s Smile Festival. Our annual party celebrating children was an incredible event that even the pouring rain couldn’t stop. The festivity took place on May 31 in the backyard of the Holy Cross Parish in Maspeth. We started off with a live music performance by The Masters. While parents delighted in the music and traditional Polish cuisine, their kids had loads of fun in the game sections. Most of the boys occupied the bouncy castle, while the girls enjoyed having their faces painted to look like famous princesses. Getting fancy tattoos was also very popular among our young crowd. Other attractions included playing in colorful sand, competitions on stage, dancing, and arts and crafts. Furthermore, we had music performances by Gaudete and many other young artists. During the festival we organized a lottery; the money collected, in the amount of $7,094, was allocated to support Kacper Siewniak, a one-year-old boy who suffers from a rare eye cancer.

On June 6, 2015 Children’s Smile Foundation, together with the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland, held its annual art auction, “Evening with the Art.” The auction took place at the Polish Consulate in New York and gathered many great artists, performers, and guests. Consul Mateusz Stąsiek started the evening by extending warm greetings to all participants. Shortly after, we had a wonderful performance by Kobo Music Studio — the performers left the audience amazed and uplifted, making way for Mr. Marek Skulimowski to smoothly proceed to the main piece of the event.

During the auction we were privileged to present paintings donated by: Tomasz Bogacki, Jerzy Chojnowski, Rafał Ekwiński, Katarzyna Iwaniec, Krzysztof Kamont, Edmund Korzeniewski, Bogdan Kujawski, Robert Matejko, Mietko Rudek, Mariola Olbińska, Rafał Olbiński, Janusz Skowron, Zbigniew Sokołowski, Andrzej Tyszko, Agnieszka Waszak, Halina Wiel, and Ewa Zeller. Among the many auctioned paintings, we sold an acrylic by Bogdan Kujawski for $2,500, an acrylic by Rafał Olbiński for $1,550, and “John Paul II” by Robert Matejko for $700. We also auctioned paintings and artwork sent to us by children from the orphanages in Jelenia Góra and Przesieka, the St. Brother Albert Association in Stalowa Wola, the Special Education Center “Kormoran” in Ełk, and the “Nike” Association for Disabled People from Białystok. All together we were able to collect $10,000. The money will be wisely used to continue our mission of helping underprivileged children — a significant portion went to orphanages in Poland. Children’s Smile Foundation is honored to be supported by all the great artists and performers who were willing to donate their work, time, and talents for such a meaningful cause: changing the lives of sick and poor children.

On October 18, 2015 Children’s Smile Foundation, together with Polska Running Team, organized its first 5K run for adults and 1K run for children. The event took place in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park in Queens and gathered 140 participants. The guest of honor was Consul General Urszula Gacek. The purpose of the charitable runs was to collect funds for Victoria Rusnaczyk, a six-year-old girl who was diagnosed with leukemia. The event was very successful — all runners had a lot of fun and the satisfaction of crossing the finish line, and medals were given to the best racers. A total of $5,543 was raised and delivered to Victoria. Children’s Smile Foundation is grateful to all the participants and would like to extend special thanks to the Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union, Polska Running Team, Belvedere Bridge, Victoria Consulting & Development LLC, Vision Financial Planning, attorney Mariusz Śniarowski, and Radio Rampa, Kurier Plus, Super Express, Nowy Dziennik, and Polish Pages.

On November 6, 2015 Justyna Makowska, on behalf of Children’s Smile Foundation, organized a fundraiser for Julia and Wiktoria Jaworski. The event took place at Belvedere Bridge Enterprises in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. It gathered mostly friends and family, who were willing to open their hearts and support Julia and Wiktoria. The girls went through a very difficult time when their mother suffered a ruptured aneurysm and stayed in the hospital for an extended period of time. A total of $3,695 was raised to help the girls. Justyna, together with representatives of Children’s Smile Foundation, Mr. Arthur Dołęga and Mr. Mariusz Śniarowski, visited the Jaworski sisters at their house to deliver the funds. It was a pleasure to meet the girls and learn about their passions and plans for the future. Children’s Smile Foundation, together with Justyna Makowska, would like to thank all the guests for supporting the cause, as well as the sponsors: Krzysztof Rostek, Sikorski Meat Market, Charlotte Patisserie, and Tomasz Lipiński.

On December 5, 2015, at the Church of St. Matthias in Ridgewood, CSF hosted a “Meeting with Santa.” At the very beginning all the children received a large bag of sweets donated by Lowell Foods. The evening featured a concert by Gaudete, who sang beautiful Christmas carols under the leadership of Mrs. Ewa Gindorowicz. Another highlight was the circus show, which aroused great curiosity among the youngest attendees. The program also included arts and crafts, games and competitions for children, and a sponsor-funded raffle with numerous amazing prizes. Special guest Santa Claus’s arrival was the best part of the event for all the children; their joy was rewarded when Santa gave each child a present and took commemorative photos with each of them. During the event, delicious dishes prepared by Kefirek Deli were served, and The Masters entertained with fun tunes.

Finally, there was the ceremonial opening of the Fund named after Father Peter, who was an important part of our organization for many years. Father Peter had a big heart, was always compassionate to all, and was always eager and committed to helping others. The Fund was created to help disadvantaged children in NY. The inauguration was attended by Father Peter’s sister, Barbara, along with his family.

Thanks to our sponsors, who helped prepare this wonderful evening, we gathered over $7,800 to help children. Special thanks to sponsors: Lowell Foods, Citibank, Syrena Bakery Inc., Kefirek Deli, Adam’s European Contracting Inc., Bridge Capital Enterprises Ltd., PSFCU, AMTA, The Heller Law Firm, PC, Cupful/Polanica, W-Nassau Meat Market, Dr. E. Toriello, Ella Insurance Brokerage Inc., Z.S. Engineering, PC, and the Pulaski Association of Business & Professional Men.

Nearly $112,000 was collected by Poles living in the United States as part of the “Holiday Children’s Smile” (Świąteczny Uśmiech Dziecka) campaign. The money went to the account of the “Gajusz” children’s hospice in Łódź, the Blessed Fr. Michał Sopoćko Hospice in Vilnius, and to the needs of Polish-American children in need. The second edition of this charity campaign, run by the Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union (PSFCU) and Children’s Smile Foundation of New York, lasted from November 27, 2015 to January 9, 2016. During that time, members of the credit union collected a total of $111,769.77, making donations directly at 16 PSFCU branches in the New York and Chicago metropolitan areas and in New Jersey, or by online transfers. Donors could direct their support to three beneficiaries: the “Gajusz” children’s hospice in Łódź, recommended by Polish First Lady Agata Duda, received a total of $57,550.66; the Blessed Fr. Michał Sopoćko Hospice in Vilnius received $31,788.03; and Children’s Smile Foundation — for Polish-American children in need — collected $22,431.08. All of the collected funds went to the needs of sick children, as the PSFCU charged no operating fees. “The success of this campaign would not have been possible without the great commitment and generosity of our members. We want to warmly thank everyone who supported the ‘Holiday Children’s Smile’ campaign. I am sure that thanks to your generosity, a smile will appear this year on the faces of many sick and needy children,” said PSFCU Executive Director Bogdan Chmielewski. It was the second edition of the campaign — the previous year, more than $151,000 (the equivalent of nearly 550,000 złoty) was collected for three children’s hospices in Poland (in Rzeszów, Kraków, and Białystok) and for Polish-American children in need. The Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union, headquartered in New York, is the largest Polish financial institution outside of Poland and the American counterpart of Polish credit unions, with more than 85,000 members, 16 branches in the USA, and assets of over $1.6 billion.

Bal Walentynkowy

Utwory muzyki klasycznej wykonali brawurowo podopieczni pani Bożeny Konkiel z Kobo Music Studio: Robert Bronchard – fortepian, Kerri Thomson – wokal, Nicholas Kaponyas – fortepian.. Jazzowymi interpretacjami znanych utworów zachwycił saksofonista Krzysztof Medyna w towarzyszeniu pianisty Andrzeja Winnickiego.
